Porter's Five Forces

An assessment of industry structure through rivalry, new entrants, substitutes, buyer power and supplier power.

An industry goes in and a rated view of the five forces comes out.

What goes in
  • Client / Company Name
  • Industry
  • Target Geographies
  • Known Competitors
  • Additional Context
  • Approved outputs of STEMPLE Analysis (optional)
What you get
  • An intensity rating and drivers for each of the five forces
  • A one-line strategic implication per force
  • An overall industry attractiveness view
  • Strategic implications, led by the main finding
How it works

Four steps from start to finish.

  1. 1Fill in the input form

Complete the fields: Client / Company Name; Industry; Target Geographies; Known Competitors; Additional Context.

  2. 2Choose upstream context

Tick which approved outputs to include as context: STEMPLE Analysis. Anything not approved is simply left out.

  3. 3Review the streamed output

The draft streams in as you watch. Read it, add comments for the team and edit the text. Regenerate it with feedback if it needs another pass.

  4. 4Approve the result

An approved output becomes available as context for Key Competitors Analysis and SWOT Analysis, and it appears on the Summary page.

Industry structure is often described in loose terms, which makes it hard to compare with other work on the project.

What {{product.name}} does with it

The tool rates each of the five forces as high, medium or low, gives specific drivers for each rating and a one-line implication, then judges overall industry attractiveness. It can use the approved STEMPLE output as context.
